I am the Andrew Paul Sesquicentennial Faculty Fellow and assistant professor in the Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management.

In my two primary streams of research, I look to test the thematic and methodological bounds of traditional strategy research.

The first stream examines hybrid organizations and related contexts and contributes to a growing body of literature focused on organizational goals besides profit maximization, considering if and how conclusions from the traditional strategy literature apply. To identify the strategies businesses use to balance differing objectives in a hybrid space, I engage multiple methods and settings.  In particular, I use econometric approaches in a panel data set of microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Latin America.  To further explore mechanisms found in this large-scale empirical work, I conduct interviews and employ follow-up surveys. I am currently in the process of launching a field experiment with one of the MFIs in Bolivia.  To consider the generalizability and boundary conditions of these results, my work spans other sectors and industries, including a formal model with empirical motivation from global supply chain decisions in large scale manufacturing firms and an inductive qualitative paper following a for-profit construction firm.

My second research stream strives to apply econometric methods more effectively in order to answer important strategy questions.  By applying strategy to new phenomenon and furthering the methodological understanding of the field, these streams advance the notion that strategy can serve as a foundation to answer important and rigorous questions in a changing business landscape.  This stream includes multiple papers that address issues and methods of firm-level estimation.
